Moray Council has launched its ‘Bee Safe in Moray’ campaign for schools reopening safely.

The Bee Safe logo will appear on new signs throughout all school buildings identifying hand washing points, sanitisation stations and giving general advice on access and direction of travel if in a one way zone.

These measures act as mitigations against the risk of spreading covid-19 when schools return for pupils as anticipated on 12 August. The signage aims to keep pupils, teachers and staff as safe as possible on the assumption that schools will be returning 100%, which will be confirmed later this week by the Scottish Government and dependent on their scientific advice.

Examples of signage staff and pupils can expect to see while be shared on the council’s social media channels between now and the start of term to familiarise building users with what to look out for.

Tips and advice on travelling to school, pick-up and drop-off at school gates and suggestions for keeping safe will also be shared daily next week.

Speaking as the awareness campaign launched Moray Council’s Head of Education, Vivienne Cross, said: “One of our talented teachers has put together a fantastic package of signage to be displayed in all schools to keep pupils and staff safe and mindful of the good hygiene practices we expect to be followed.

“We know it’s going to be a bit strange for many pupils returning to school in these circumstances so anything we can do to make it more comfortable for them we will.

“This includes familiarising pupils and staff with the new signage beforehand and reassuring all that mitigations are in place for their continued safety. We encourage parents and carers to share these images with their children and friends over the next two weeks as that they form part of the ‘new normal’ pupils hear us speaking about so often.”

All signage has been designed by Sophia Chin, a teacher at Hopeman Primary School, for use in primary and secondary schools.
